Summer Creative Plans

Once university has finished for the summer and all of my projects have been handed in and signed off, I have a range of things I'm planning on doing or creating. I don't think I've ever felt as motivated as I do at the moment to just create and I blame it on university, in a good way. I think it's opened my eyes to all the possibilities I can sink my teeth into when I comes to art and animation, especially now I have more knowledge about the subject as a whole.

I feel like the list of what I'd like to create is endless and I certainly don't think I'll have time to do all of the things on there. Though I would like to maybe just talk about them a little bit so I can look back in the future and compare my skills then with the goals/plans I have now.

First, studying. I need to study, study, study. I have to admit that I don't go out of my way to study anatomy or light and shadows or backgrounds and I really need to. I don't want to just draw the same thing over and over again. I want to expand. So, studying. This includes learning to draw backgrounds, studying anatomy regularly, studying and practising lighting and shadows (because I also avoid shading where possible) and learning to paint digitally!

Try making more 3D work! It's incredibly difficult and I certainly don't understand a lot of the 3D software I use and, wow, it takes forever just to even make something small but that's the point of learning! There are few things I would like to create in 3D, such as a record player and a 3D version of my ADHD Month TV, and the summer holidays provides the perfect opportunity to do so.

Participate in more challenges. No matter whether it's illustration or animation, I need to get myself to join these challenges. There are animation challenges I've been meaning to do such as LoopDeLoop and illustration trends I need to jump on like ArtvsArtist, Inktober, MeetTheArtist and the most recent trends: Sixfanarts and K.K. Slider album redraws. I believe it is important for me to try participating in these challenges because of exposure. Yes, exposure is usually a taboo word when it comes to artists as it usually relates to people trying to exploit their work without paying them for it. But in this instance, it really is about the exposure. Doing these challenges gets your artwork out there for people who may not usually see you work to see it.

Try creating more animations generally. I can't expect myself to get better at animation if I never actually do any. Even if it's only a small goal like an animation a month or every couple of weeks, no matter how small the animation is I create, what's important is that I'm doing it and building up some portfolio work.

Draw more fan artworks and personal works! I forget in the midst of university work to take time for myself to create artwork for fun. No better time to do that than when I'm not at university!

I believe with the amount of things I would like to do this summer, I'm going to have to create a time plan for myself. Yeesh. I know, another one. But I just have so much I'd like to do and I want to be able to fit it all in! I also need to make this a habit of doing this regularly. That means once I get to the start of my second year at university, I'll already be into the swing of it and won't lose as much momentum over the summer.

So. Finally. Perhaps look forward to any and all kinds of content I've mentioned (and more) in the future! If I stick to my plans but don't upload them onto my website, make sure to check out my social medias and see what I'm up to!
