Looking back through this project, I can say that my skills in the pre-production side of creating an animation have improved. Before this project, I was not very aware of the processes that went into planning an animation, such as storyboards, but as I have created my own storyboards and have developed my ideas through artist research, I can now say that I am aware of and am able to create my own workflow and conduct research for pre-production development in a lot more detail and to a higher degree. To plan my project, I mapped out the various aspects of pre-production that needed to be undertaken and split them across the three weeks that I had to work on it. I do think my workflow was effective as it let me think about all the aspects of pre-production in my work, however I should have tried to stick to a schedule more than I did as my time management on this project was not very good and it would have allowed me to carry out a greater amount of work.

The research I did in this project included looking into the brand Nowt Special to get an understanding for the kind of work that they frequently displayed and for what was acceptable. I looked at a range of animations that included abstract scenes within them to give me an idea of the type of work I could produce for my own.I think I could have looked more into workflows to give me more of an understanding and some more examples, such as some of the workflows used professionally in the industry. If I had managed my time better, I would have gone into depth about the current trends in animation and illustration at the moment, why storyboards are important and a greater range of artists for inspiration. At the beginning of the project, some of my initial ideas had included smooth shapes and lines with fluid movements that used bright, blocky colours. Through looking at the work of artists like Elanor Kopka and Rudo Company, I was inspired to make more of a dark-looking animation that gave more of an uneasy feel, which is how I ended up with the design of the animation in my sketchbook.

To produce the concepts for my animation, I mostly just used Procreate for the iPad. This is because I was able to directly pick colours from my sample and save them for future use. Using this software also meant I could try out a range of brushes and see which ones fit the kind of mood/tone I was after in my work and the digital aspect allowed me to quickly and easily edit concepts that I had created.

I am partly happy with the work I have produced in this project. I am most happy with the development of my idea for my animation and the work produced for that, such as my proposal presentation, storyboards and concepts as I feel that they are well developed and convey exactly my ideas. I wish I had explored some of my earlier ideas a little more and expanded on them with some research to give myself a few different options to begin with, where I would be able to explore a greater range of inspiration to influence my final idea.
