As part of my Personal/Professional Development module for university, I wanted to create some business cards. I always struggle with what to put on a business card because I never feel as though the designs I try to draw on the cards really fits with me and what I like to draw. I also never know what I should call myself on my business cards; am I an animator? An illustrator? What if I'm only a student and haven't actually animated or illustrated that much yet? Well, as they say, I should advertise myself for the jobs I want to have! So, yes, I'm an animator and illustrator!
I thought I'd look on good ol' Pinterest for some design inspiration, which you can see below.

What I found myself liking the most out of these were the cards that had a character or design on the front, and then a drawing of the artist themselves on the back, along with all of their contact information. For this reason, I thought I would draw my animal persona, Wellington, on the front of the card and human me on the back.
Here are the initial skecthes I came up with:
Front Back
I made sure to check that typical business card dimensions so as to make it easier to create the designs at the right size (3.5 inches x 2 inches). I wanted to have a nice, bold colour on the front, so chose yellow as it's eye-catching and bright and I know it would complement the blue colour of my persona's fur. The back of the card will just be white, to differentiate it from the front since it will have all of the contact details on.
I started on the front, colourful side and used Procreate on the iPad to make it. Having a symmetry tool is super helpful for things like this, but I always try to make sure there are enough asymmetrical parts so that it doesn't look boring. After lining and colouring it, I wasn't sure whether to add shading or not, as my shading is fairly poor. I decided I liked the look of it just with flat colours, but added a bit of shine/reflection on the earings and collar, as well as some shadow under the shirt collar.
